Official recovery guides

Always try the official recovery flow first — it has higher success rates than manual attempts.

Gmail / Google

  1. Go to accounts.google.com/signin/recovery
  2. Enter your email and click Try a different way
  3. If you have a trusted device or phone still signed in, confirm there
  4. If none work, answer Google's identity questions (account age, recovery email)
  5. Use this tool's generated list only as a last resort via the standard sign-in page

Tip: Try from a device and network you normally used — Google uses location history to verify identity.

Instagram

  1. Open Instagram → tap Get more help below Login
  2. Enter your username, email, or phone linked to the account
  3. If you have access to the linked email/phone, use that option
  4. Otherwise tap I can't access this email or phone number
  5. Try the video selfie option — it compares you to photos on the account

Tip: The video selfie verification has the highest success rate if your face appears in account photos.

Facebook

  1. Go to facebook.com/login/identify
  2. Search for your account by name, email, or phone
  3. Choose how to receive a reset code (email or SMS)
  4. If those options are unavailable, try No longer have access to these?
  5. Facebook may ask you to identify friends in photos to verify identity

Tip: If you added a trusted contact to your account previously, they can help you regain access.

General tips

  • Start with the top-ranked passwords in the generated list — they match the most common human patterns
  • Be aware of lockouts: most platforms lock for 24h after 5–10 failed attempts — use official recovery instead
  • After recovering: set a recovery phone and backup email so this never happens again
  • Consider a free password manager like Bitwarden going forward
